Bruce Hayne was elected to Surrey City Council in 2012, and as a resident and business owner since 1993 his entrepreneurial approach to his role focuses on establishing Surrey as a premier investment location with a vibrant urban economy.
Bruce chairs the city’s Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee and he knows that a community growing as fast as Surrey needs to develop in a responsible, sustainable manner. Bruce’s priority is to ensure Surrey has a balanced, supportive approach to prioritizing the creation of new jobs, while simultaneously protecting farmland and natural space.
He also chairs the Investment and Innovation Committee, which is responsible for economic development issues such as Innovation Boulevard and the development of Smart Surrey, the city’s technology and innovation strategy. Bruce believes that Surrey’s innovative approaches to job creation are working – Surrey was the first city in British Columbia to establish economic investment zones, and the Real Estate Investment Network recently named Surrey the best place to invest in BC and the 4th in Canada.
Bruce’s community involvement includes serving on the boards, councils and committees of numerous organizations, including: Sources BC, BC Summer Games, Mayor’s Red Tape Reduction Committee, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation Patron’s Council, Surrey Board of Trade and the Board of Trade’s Education Advisory Committee, Surrey Meth Amphetamine Regional Taskforce, and Cornerstone Care Society. Bruce is also a regular contributing writer to several business and trade publications, such as InnFocus and The Publican.
Bruce lives in Cloverdale with his wife Joyce and two children. When not working, he enjoys playing keyboards with his classic rock band “All About Jack” at community festivals, pubs, and corporate events.
