A Surrey resident for 30 years, I have been a member of Council since 1988.
It is enormously rewarding to see a vibrant downtown core emerging as part of the Build Surrey Program . The civic centre complex will include a new library, a new city hall and a new public square.
This remarkable urban re-development will redefine Surrey, attract new investment and create an environment where entrepreneurs and businesses will thrive.
Given that not a single acre of land has been removed from the ALR for development over the past six years shows that we have struck the right balance between growth and the preservation of farmland and green space.
Over the past three years, we have invested $128 million in improving local roads while also creating walking and cycling opportunities – about 7% of the road improvement capital budget has been allocated to:
- 29 km of pedestrian and cycling paths
- 92 km of on-street bike lanes
- 28 km of park paths
- New pedestrian and cycling links – Tynehead overpass across Hwy #1 and the Pioneer overpass across Hwy #99
I Chair the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and am a member of the Finance, Public Safety, and Transportation Committees as well as the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition.
At Metro Vancouver, I am Vice Chair of the Water Committee and a member of the Finance and Regional Parks Committee and serve on the Sustainable Region initiative Task Force.
My wife Ruth and I raised six children in Newton and now live in Fleetwood.
I am a member of the non-partisan Surrey First Team.
