I grew up in Kamloops and have been a resident of Surrey for the past 23 years. After studying at SFU and working for the Professional Employees Association, I was elected to Council in 2008.
Since 80% of the commuting trips that start South of the Fraser end South of the Fraser, I worked to ensure that our Transportation Plan calls for light rail to part of the public transit choices Surrey residents have as they move in and around our community.
I am strong supporter of Surrey’s School Traffic Safety Program, the largest in BC which focuses on making school frontage and route-to-school roadways safer for children. With over 140 projects completed in 2010 and 2011, the results are significant, at Bridgeview Elementary there has been a 41% reduction in traffic outside the school.
I also believe in creating a family-oriented community and Surrey’s major family festivals provide a free venue for family and friends to gather and celebrate – Canada Day and Fusion Festival in the summer, Winter Fest in February, and Party for the Planet and Surrey Children’s Festival in the spring.
As part of my work as Chair the Crime Reduction Strategy Working Group, I have led numerous community engagement forums dealing with domestic abuse. I also serve on the Mayor’s Investment and Job Creation Committee, as well as the Finance, Public Safety and Transportation Committees.
I live in Clayton with my three children.
I am a member of the non-partisan Surrey First team.
