The first priority of our team is to build a community where people feel safe to walk the streets, and have trust in honest government. We will continue to improve the transparency of City Hall, and increase the access and influence every citizen has in government decision-making.
We believe that the RCMP has done an exceptional job in protecting residents, but they cannot do it alone. We have increased RCMP staffing by 300 new officers and nearly doubled RCMP funding, and we will invest more resources and add more officers until we can achieve our target ratio of 700 residents per officer. But we believe that it is simplistic to hire more police as a single-minded way to solve crime, and we will continue a balanced approach to crime-fighting, including more opportunities for young people, more resources for those with mental health and addictions issues, and greater community involvement in crime prevention.
