A resident since 1983, I worked at the City of Surrey for over 20 years before retiring as the Manager of Economic Development prior to my election in 2005.
Cities are important job generators and our new Build Surrey Program , which includes not only an iconic new library and new city hall but also important community projects in every town centre, is helping to create a vibrant and dynamic local economy.
As Chair of the Mayor’s Investment & Job Creation Committee and the Red Tape Reduction Committee, I am working to remove needless barriers to the growth of small business and new jobs.
As we grow we must maintain a high quality of life for families and I supported new recreation centres in Cloverdale, Fraser Heights, Newton, and the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre in Whalley, as well as the new artificial turf fields at Hjorth Road, Tamanawis and South Surrey Athletic Park. I am serving as the Co-President of the upcoming 2012 BC Summer Games.
As Chair of the Mayor’s Clean Energy & Technology Task Force, I am proud that the Clean Energy Association of B.C. recently awarded Surrey the ‘Community of the Year Award’, for providing leadership on clean energy initiatives.
I also serve on the Housing & Homelessness Foundation, the Finance, Public Safety and Intergovernmental Committees and I am Vice Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Port Cities and Environment & Energy Committees and a Director of the regional Agriculture and Waste Management Committees.
My husband Alan, an administrator at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, and I have three sons and three grandchildren.
I am a member of the non-partisan Surrey First team.
